This news came out on December 9 from the FDA.
The head of the Food and Drug Administration is warning again about the marketing of kratom and other dietary supplements to treat opioid addiction – calling them “health fraud scams.”
“FDA believes strongly people addicted to opioids should have access to safe and effective, approved treatments for addiction. Unfortunately, unscrupulous vendors are trying to capitalize on opioid epidemic by illegally marketing products for these purposes,” FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb, MD, warned on Twitter Friday.
Here are the facts. In Thailand, Kratom has been documented as a successful treatment option for opiate addiction since the early 1800s. And it's quite a stretch to use the term "illegally" in the previous statement. Even if drawing on one's own opinions and conclusions regarding the use of Kratom as an opioid deterrent, what makes that illegal?
If Kratom is a "health fraud scam", then why are there thousands and thousands of people that advocate for Kratom?
Over 90% of KY Kratom clients become repeat customers. If Kratom is such a scam, why do people keep purchasing Kratom?
Why is the FDA allowed to make such claims With no hard evidence or data to back it up?
